Willow Grove Orchard Wedding – Kayleigh & Brandon

We had such an amazing summer here at Divine Weddings – so many awesome weddings and THE BEST clients!

Kayleigh and Brandon were no exception. These two lovebirds tied the knot back in July at Willow Grove Orchard in Argyle, Manitoba. The cutest little rustic piece of wedding goodness you have ever seen! Every inch of this space was perfect for Kayleigh and Brandon’s country wedding – from the rustic barn to the outdoor bar area – it’s filled with quaint country charm. Megan Steen Photography captured all the beautiful details perfectly!

These two are so in love – it was such a pleasure working with them to create this amazing day for them and their young son.

Congrats Kayleigh and Brandon, and big thanks to the vendors for making this day so freakin’ awesome!

Camp Manitou Wedding – Stephanie and Andrew

Camp Manitou is a hidden gem in Winnipeg. Nestled in the trees alongside the Assiniboine River – the 28 acres of dreamy forest area was the perfect spot for Stephanie and Andrew to say I do!

And when I say dreamy, I mean DREAMY! The gorgeous outdoor ceremony was tucked away in the forest like something in a movie. Take a look for yourself – the images by Izabela Rachwal captured the pure magic of this amazing location.

The entire day was such a celebration and we were so happy to be a part of it. Congrats Stephanie and Andrew!

Tips for Beating The Heat on Your Wedding Day

The 2018 wedding season here in Manitoba has been one for the record books. Heat wave after heat wave has had me sweating through many weddings this summer. Even though you can’t avoid the heat completely on a wedding day, there are a few things you can do to stay cool and comfortable.

Here are my stay cool wedding tips for our hot hot hot Winnipeg summers.

Avoid the heat as much as possible.

The key to beating the heat on your wedding day is to avoid it as much as possible in the first place. Choose a venue for your ceremony and reception that are indoors and airconditioned. If you are having a tented wedding reception, ask the tent company about portable air conditioners and fans. They can help take the edge off of a hot day. When it comes to your wedding photos, have an indoor option booked like a studio or historic building to give everyone a break from the heat.

Drink tons of water.

Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. I can’t say this enough. You have to stay hydrated on these sweltering days (and no, champagne and beer are not the same, but nice try lol). Make sure to have plenty of water available for everyone in the wedding party. You don’t want anyone becoming dehydrated – headaches and dizziness are not welcome on a wedding day – not fun!

Choose the right clothing.

It’s impossible to avoid the heat entirely, but there are ways to make yourself more comfortable. Choose a wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses that are light and expose your shoulders and arms. Going sans suit jackets for the groom and groomsmen will also make a huge difference for the guys. No one wants to wear a jacket in this heat! Another tip is to have the guys get two shirts – this way if they sweat through their shirt they can change into a fresh one for the reception.

Keep your guests comfortable.

Your guest’s comfort should be your number one priority on your wedding day – especially if your wedding day lands in the middle of a heat wave. Providing hand fans, cool beverages, and keeping anything outdoors short and sweet will ensure your guests don’t melt in the hot sun.

Sweat-proof your makeup.

Your make-up artist can sweatproof your makeup to ensure you and your girls stay fresh the entire day. Using a primer before application and applying facial mist throughout the day will keep your makeup from disappearing in heat and humidity. Ask your makeup artist for samples so that you can apply touchups throughout the day as needed.

Crown Royal Event Sneak Peek

We are very fortunate here at Divine Weddings to be able to plan Crown Royal’s bi-annual media tours. Twice a year, the folks at Crown Royal plan a two day extravaganza to wow media professionals and to immerse them in the full Crown Royal experience.

Every event includes a tour of the Crown Royal distillery in Gimli, Manitoba, followed by a dinner complete with craft cocktails. This year the event took place at Gimli Harbour – a beautiful summer evening beside the lake, complete with a bonfire and s’mores.

Day two had the guests enjoying dinner and drinks at Cibo Waterfront Cafe – such an amazing space for corporate events!

Pro images by BLF Studios are on their way but in the meantime, these sneak peeks from my iPhone will have to do 🙂

There are so many great spots here in Winnipeg for wedding photos. Of course, you’ll want to have lots of photos in the beautiful outdoors, but you should always have a plan B in case of rain. This is a must-have when it comes to indoor wedding locations in the city. Each studio has a different style and theme, plus they have the coolest retro sofas!

Our Favourite Wedding Sweet Tables

We’ve seen plenty of sweet tables over the years here at Divine Weddings. There are so many talented bakeries in Winnipeg, and we are lucky enough to have sampled all of their sweets (tough job, but someone’s gotta do it).

I sifted through all of our wedding photos to find our favourite sweet tables. You can definitely add some personality to your sweet table and design something that fits the style and theme of your wedding. Have fun with it and get creative! I know designing a sweet table is one of my favourite parts of the design process. And the tastings are pretty fun too 🙂

This first one is from a wedding at Bridges Golf Course. The bride wanted something vintage with a garden feel to fit the theme of her wedding. She found this antique dresser and refinished it with a chalkboard instead of the mirror. Amazing DIY!

This next one was super fun! A Canada Day wedding at Danceland in Clearlake – a rustic wedding cake and Canadiana inspired maple leaf, polar bear, and loon sugar cookies! So awesome!

winnipeg bakery

Pretty and vintage. This couple got married at The Gates on Roblin and wanted a very vintage reception. The sweet table mimicked the entire design, including a vintage desk, teacups and lace (and High Tea Bakery’s delicious imperial cookies).

You can’t have a wedding at the Rustic Wedding Barn in Steinbach and have an ordinary sweet table! This multi-tiered wooden cake stand was perfect for this barn wedding! And the single tier cake with the love birds is pretty cute too.

winnipeg bakery

Photos: Billy Economou Photography  |  Sweets: Nachelle’s Cakes

Elegant and chic – this couple tied in their sweet table perfectly for their wedding at The Fort Garry Hotel. Bold colours of red, black and white looked so chic when it was all brought together. And did I mention they had cheesecakes on a stick? #sweettablegoals

winnipeg bakery

This sweet table will probably go down as one of my all time faves! Not only was it the perfect touch to this outdoor tent wedding in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, but it brought together candy and sweets with the perfect touch of boho. Sa-weet!

winnipeg bakery

A fortieth wedding anniversary is something to celebrate! I love the vintage touches and the gold and mint colour palette!

Another gorgeous wedding at Bridges Golf Course! This groom was quite the outdoorsman, so a rustic wooden cake stand for their wedding cake and cupcakes was the perfect touch.

5 Tips For Planning Your Outdoor Wedding Ceremony

I love outdoor wedding ceremonies! With our chilly Winnipeg winters, it’s so nice to be able to enjoy our gorgeous summers as much as possible, especially on a wedding day! The warm sunshine, a soft breeze and the beauty of nature – an outdoor wedding ceremony creates the perfect atmosphere for breathtaking I do’s.

When it comes to an outdoor wedding ceremony, there are a few important details to keep in mind. Whether it’s on the beach, in the backyard of your parent’s home or your favourite park, there are just certain things that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Here are five tips for planning an outdoor wedding ceremony.

Location, location, location.

A good location can make or break your outdoor wedding ceremony. Whether you are getting married in a backyard, a city park, or the green space at your reception site, you want to be sure that the outdoor space is not only beautiful but that it has everything you will need when it comes to logistics. Is there ample parking for your guests? Are there washrooms in close proximity to the site? Do you need to apply for special permits? Is there power? Is there an area for you and the wedding party to hang out in before walking down the aisle? Be sure to do a site visit and keep these important aspects in mind to ensure your outdoor I do’s don’t become a logistical nightmare.

winnipeg outdoor weddingPhoto: BLF Studios  |  Venue: The Gates on Roblin

Have a plan B.

Mother nature can be that unwanted guest that creates havoc – don’t let her ruin your big day. You never know how the weather is going to be on your wedding day, so it is essential that you have a plan B in case of inclement weather. Is there a building on site that you can use in case of rain or will you have to book a tent as your backup? I always say ‘Hope for the best but plan for the worst.’ This is never truer than when planning anything outdoors. You don’t want to just hope for the best and regret it later. Saying your vows in a tent might not be the outdoor wedding you were dreaming of, but neither is a downpour that gets everyone running for cover.

Put the comfort of your guests first.

When making decisions for your wedding ceremony, always ask yourself “Is it important to the comfort of my guests?” If the answer is yes then it is a must. Be sure to have enough seating for all of the invited guests. Your guests could be standing for as long as an hour, so skimping on renting chairs to save costs will only make for cranky and uncomfortable guests. Have refreshments on hand like iced tea and water to quench their thirst in hot weather. Provide fans to cool themselves and bug spray to keep guests as comfortable as possible while you are saying I do. Keeping guests happy will ensure they are in a celebratory mood for the remainder of the event.

winnipeg outdoor weddingPhoto: Kamp Photography  |  Venue: Bridges Golf Course

Use a microphone.

There is nothing worse than sitting through an entire wedding ceremony and not being able to hear one word. Having a microphone on hand is important so that all the guests, including the ones sitting at the back, can hear what is being said. You might think you will be able to speak loud and clearly on the wedding day, but being nervous and anxious makes people speak quiet and faster. So a microphone is important in all cases. You are outdoors after all – planes fly overhead, babies cry and cars on nearby roads can be quite loud and will overtake your words.

Keep it short and sweet.

Sitting outside in the elements can only be tolerated by guests for so long before they start to get uncomfortable. Having a long winded ceremony that never seems to end when the sun is beating down on guests just isn’t fun for anyone. Do your guests a favor and keep your outdoor wedding ceremony under twenty minutes so that they aren’t sitting for too long. And please try your best to start on time – nothing is worse than sitting in the hot sun and swatting bugs because things are starting late. Exposing your guests to the elements longer than they have to be is inconsiderate, so be mindful of the time.

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day everyone!

I was thinking back to Amber and Matt’s awesome Canada Day wedding last year in Clear Lake. WHAT. A. BLAST! They were married in a gorgeous outdoor ceremony and held their reception at Danceland – you can see the original post here. But in between their ceremony and reception, they planned an AWESOME Canada Day backyard party to keep their guests entertained. What a fabulous idea! They had plenty of Canadian themed decor, patriotic props, and fun lawn games to keep guests busy.

I wanted to share some photos of the backyard party with you today that didn’t make the original post – doesn’t this look like so much fun!

Have a fabulous long weekend!

Hawthorn Estates Styled Shoot

Hawthorn Estates – a quaint wedding venue in St. Clements, Manitoba – and the perfect location for this feminine and summery styled shoot.

I was so excited to do a photo shoot at this gorgeous venue! Our goal was to create a soft and pretty shoot with feminine touches. All the vendors involved nailed it! Pink peonies (so pretty!), floral stationery, stunning models, s’mores (how awesome is that), the CUTEST pale pink calligraphy apple place markers, and my favorite detail – the table runner printed with the words from Elton John’s ‘Your Song’.

‘I know it’s not much, but it’s the best I can do.
My gift is my song, and this one’s for you.
And you can tell everybody this is your song.
It may be quite simple, but now that it’s done.
I hope you don’t mind,
I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words.
How wonderful life is, now you’re in the world.’

Enough talk, let’s get to the goods! Thanks so much to all of these vendors for your hard work and creative talents.

Lake Elopement Styled Shoot in Kenora Ontario

There’s just something about a lake wedding. Nowhere else can you find gorgeous wilderness and a lakefront view better than Kenora, Ontario. So we decided to pack up a van with the geniuses at The Floral Fixx and headed out to Middle Lake for an enchanting lakeside styled shoot.

My favourite things about this shoot – A) Working with my bud Melissa from Sugar and Soul Photography (she rocks). B) Spending the day at the lake, duh. C) That amazing teepee designed by my other bud Julie (she also rocks) and D) That freaken skirt! Seriously, it will have you rethinking your entire wedding ensemble!

Thanks so much to all of these amazing vendors for all of your hard work. You all rock. I loved working with you and look forward to future weddings together! And special thanks to our amazing models – you guys looked gorgeous!

Styled Shoot at The Gates on Roblin

We planned a styled shoot at The Gates on Roblin a little while back. It had a touch of rustic (just a smidge), pretty whimsical details and was full of L.O.V.E. Outdoors along the river, a wood pile, a crystal chandelier hanging from a tree, and gold terrarium centerpieces dressed with moss and roses – it was all out magical and romantic. We titled it ‘Love Story’ because we believe every wedding should tell the couple’s love story.

Our gorgeous models were past clients of Divine Weddings – Kelly and Lars were married a few months before this photo shoot. We loved working with them to plan their ‘Love Story’ and were ecstatic when they agreed to be a part of the shoot. Don’t you just love Kelly’s blush wedding gown!

In the time since this shoot, Kelly and Lars have welcomed a baby boy – and so their love story continues. Awww. That’s what it’s all about 🙂

This shoot was also featured on Junebug Weddings – you can see the feature here.

Excited to finally share the images with you all – and stay tuned for the amazing video to come to the blog in the next few weeks.

Thanks so these awesome vendors for all of their creative talents!
